A Better Me…After New Year’s Resolutions!

Yesterday as I was obsessively meandering around Pinterest I found a pin that sorta knocked me off of my kilter.  First off I am a procrastinator! I put EVERYTHING off to another minute, hour or day even…ok weeks! I am an enviously 105 pounds, I say enviously because everybody wants to be skinny.  The sad truth to this is that I am unfit.  I have chicken legs and my breasts would probably be rejected at the Tyson plant. Is this my fault? So when I read the Pin yesterday it hit a nerve and so desperately I wanted to be fit.

So I have tried to come up with a plan.  Yoga. After my divorce 6 years ago I was introduced to yoga through a friend, and I fell in love with this practice.  It really did fill a void for me and made me feel like a whole person again.  And I was fit!  I stuck with it for about a year and then life got in the way and I have rarely participated in the ritual since then.  I have though started a blog and connected with some great people!  So if I can make it a regiman to keep connected with all the blogosphere then why can’t I wake myself up at 6am? and start fresh again with getting fit.

So here a few questions that I have to plan my process.

  • What time of the day should I start my yoga?
  • Should I join a club or save money and filter content in my living room?
  • Is there an online community that I could connect with?
  • Daily or Bidaily?
  • How do I overcome my procrastination of the matter?
01. What time of the day should I start my yoga?TOP

As I mentioned before a good starting time would be 6am.  Why because no one else in the house is up at that time and yoga involves a quiet space.  Although my last yoga experience was a nightly regimen.  Anybody have any thoughts on this matter?

02. Should I join a club or save money and filter content in my living room?TOP

Joining a club is expensive and getting me to leave the house would add to my procrastination so that idea is out!  My next alternative is dvd or online content.  I have a 60 inch tv so I am wanting to utilize that experience to jolt me out of my procrastination state!  One program I found was myyogaonline.com and if I can stream this content to my tv it is a winner!  The videos are positioned in some really cool places ie: the mountains, beaches etc.

03. Is there an online community that I could connect with?TOP

This is a different question from the above.  I am wondering if there is a place that would allow me to “tag” along with others like through a web cam I guess.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

04. Daily or Bi-daily?TOP

Do I start out daily or bi-daily.  I think bi-daily would increase the longevity of this fitness plan…what do you think?

05. How do I overcome my procrastination of the matter?TOP

How do I tell my brain to do this!  In the War on Art this is called resistance.  Everything has a resistance whether you are gossiping or doing laundry there is a semi conscious state that is resisting what your are wanting or needing to do.  So how do I overcome this predicament.  I think for starters going to bed earlier would solve some of this.  I wouldn’t be so tired at 6am and would most likely get up to accomplish my goal.  So what about you blogging world do you have any tips that would help me overcome my procrastination?

I think the best thing you can do is find your groove. Morning thing not working out? Try lunchtime or before dinner. Joining a class regularly has the advantage of being social. Yoga might be an individual practice, but the energy of a class can be motivating enough to get you to come back.

If that’s no bueno, I recommend the video Ashtanga Yoga with Nikki Doane by Gaiam. It is a really goooood workout.

Either way, just get on the mat. It doesn’t really matter whether it’s in a studio or at home. Just get on the mat and get moving. Plan a treat for yourself once you’re done so you have a bit of motivation to do it: fruit with cottage cheese, salmon for dinner, peanut butter…any you will want but that is good for you too. Runner’s World actually has some really good recipes and easier than Yoga Journal’s. (Less exotic ingredients anyway.)

    You can do it.
